TRISTA by Tony Solis

Recibí una de las usuales llamadas de NYLON México para
hacer una minimoda rápida con la ropa de TRISTA, el lugar sería el taller del par de diseñadores. Cuando las sesiones son asi de rápidas no hay mucho tiempo para planear algo, y menos si no conoces a la modelo, la ropa ni la locación.
Cabe mencionar que ni la editora de moda ni yo conociamos a la modelo, lo cual dificulto un poco la sesión, pero al final el resultado nos gustó y se publicaron un par de fotos. Aquí les dejo el resto, lo no publicado.

I recieved a NYLON Mexico usual call for a quick fashion photoshoot, with TRISTA clothing, the location for this photos was the designer´s factory. When the photoshoots are this quickly there is no time to create something. and even less if you don´t even know the model , clothes or location.
I must add that the fashion editor and me did not even know the model, wich made the photo session a lilttle bit difficult, but at the end we liked the result, and a pair of photos were published. There you go the non-published.

Lo que hubiera sido una simple comida tres días después de la primera sesión de fotos con estos dos chicos, se convirtió en una de mis series favoritas en ese año. Carlos y Manuel fueron a mi casa un sábado, para comer y tomar unos pequeños retratos para el portafolio de Carlos (el chico de pelo largo). No recuerdo bien qué fue lo que preparé para comer, pero nos la pasamos bien, me sentí comodo y entre platicas sugerí unos cambios de ropa, con ropa mia que tenia por ahi guardada. Todo muy natural y clásico. Sencilla y sin historia. Las sesiones posteriores a ese día siguieron por la misma linea y tambien empecé a retomar los retratos en blanco y negro. Tambien descubrí que Carlos es uno de los mejores modelos con los que he trabajado (aptitudes, talento, colaboracion y humildad).
Las fotos saldrían en un número de la revista Código de hace muchos meses, pasó lo que pasa a menudo y no se publicaron.

Me las pidieron en una nueva publicación en NY, pero desafortunadamente quedo congelado el proyecto y han estado detenidas por meses.

What it had been a simple meal between friends three days after the first photo shoot with these two boys, became in one of my favourite series of that year. Carlos (long hair boy) and Manuel went to my apartment a saturday afternoon to eat and make some simple portraits for Carlo's model book. I don't remember what I cooked, but we had a great time. It was a comfortable situation, so I suggested some changes of clothes with my own stuff. Everything very natural and classic. Simple and without a story behind. The next photo shoots were on the same creative line and I re discover the B&W portraits. I found that Carlos is one of my favourite models (because of his attitude, talent, humility and colaboration) to work with.

These photos where supposed to be published in Codigo magazine several moths ago, but it happens what happens most of time and they never were published.

A new magazine from NY asked me for them, but unfortunately the project is frozen, so they were locked for months.

BROKEN CHILD by Tony Solis & Lizza Freer

Cada vez es mas difícil trabajar para revistas en la manera en la que lo hacíamos hasta hace algun tiempo. La mayoría de las revistas
se atreven menos, y es mas diifícil que acepten fotos de moda realizadas con chicos, (y mas si estos no son modelos profesionales).
Lizza y yo hicimos estas fotos para una revista donde esto no importaba mucho y nos dieron libertad creativa, aunque debo decir que la sesión
fue un poco accidentada, los modelos llegaron muy tarde y solo tuvimos 40 minutos para hacer las fotos. Desafortunadamente la revista no llegó a su
segunda edición y cerró por motivos que desconozco. Se enviaron a otra editorial donde las irían a publicar el diciembre pasado, paso el tiempo y nada pasó...

Everytime is more difficult to work for magazines in the single way that we used to a few time ago. The most of the magazines dare less and it is even more difficult for them to accept boys fashion photoshoots

( and more if they are not professional models) . Lizza and I did this photos for a magazine, and they did not care so much and gave us creative freedom, I must add that the photoshoot was a little dificult , the models got late and we had only 40 minutes to do the complete photoshoot, unfourtunately the magazine did not got its second edition and it closed

for unknown causes. the photos were send to another editor and it supossed to be published on the past december, time went thru and nothing happened

DON MOY by Tony Solis & Lizza Freer

La idea para estas fotos era hacer una especie de retratos con un estilismo muy básico, solo el modelo y sombreros. Don Moy (dj mexicano) era el indicado según nosotros. Como es muy blanco queríamos que se mezclara con el fondo blanco que estábamos utilizando. Rechazadas por algunas revistas por motivos de carencia de marcas (creemos que las editoriales deberían de abrir nuevamente espacio para este tipo de fotos, lo cual ya no pasa desde hace tiempo), estas fotos son un ejemplo de lo bien que me siento al trabajar con buenos amigos, en este caso Lizza Freer.

The idea behind these photos was to shoot a serie of portraits with a very basic styling: just hats and the model. Don Moy (a mexican dj), was the right one in our way. Because he is very pale, we wanted him to camouflage with the fabric behind him. Rejected by some magazines because there were no big labels or hot designers on them (we think magazines should open again a space on their pages for this kind of label-less photos), these ones are a good example of how good does it feels to work with nice people and good friends, in this case Lizza Freer.

T.E.M.O.R.E.S. by Tony Solis

Estas fotos fueron hechas especialmente para las invitaciones de fashion week de la colección de mi amigo T.E.M.O.R.E.S. La modelo nunca llegó y urgía hacer las fotos a tiempo para el desfile. Optamos por usar a Paula Arriola, modelo y amiga, y de esa manera sabíamos que no fallábamos. La composición era muy simple y el objetivo era solo resaltar los colores de la ropa de Temores. Al final decidí usar las fotos para un articulo sobre TEMORES para alguna de las revistas para las cuales trabajo. Un día, en una tienda de revistas, Sanborns, tomo una de esas revistas indie (rocks) y veo estas fotos publicadas sin autorización ni créditos. STUPIDMAGS!

These photos were specially made for the Fashion Week invitation of T.E.M.O.R.E.S., a very close friend of mine. The model we were going to use never arrived, so we made it with Paula Arriola, model and a good friend. She is a very good model, so we knew it couldn't fail. It was a very simple idea and we wanted to focus attention on the clothing's colors. I wanted to use the photos for one magazine I work for, but one day I went to a local store, Sanborns, and I saw them on an indie (rocks) magazine, published without my autorization neither credits. STUPIDMAGS!

Inicialmente las fotos las tomé para una publicidad para el myspace de
una tienda de ropa vintage en guadalajara (méxico). Me gustaron mucho
las fotos y a algunos amigos mios también y me recomendaron mandarlas
a alguna revista. Decidí enviarlas a la revista mexicana Celeste pero
ni siquiera me contestaron el email con la propuesta.

I took these photos initially for the myspace of a vintage clothes
shop in guadalajara (mexico). I liked the photos a lot and also many
of my friends liked them, they suggest me to send the photos to some
magazine.I decided to sent them to this mexican magazine Celeste but
they didn't even answer my email with the proposal.
