Aprovechando la visita de una amiga excompañera de universidad, llamé a Paula Arriola
para hacer estas fotos. Paula siempre ha sido una persona accesible y amable, dispuesta a trabajar
solo por el placer de hacerlo. Mi amiga Erica García y yo fuimos a escoger ropa al showroom de TEMORES
y la coordinamos con ropa que ella y yo teníamos en nuestros closets. Realmente la excusa para las fotos era usar los cascos que el produjo para su primera colección. En esa ocasión no intentábamos hacer una editorial de moda, solo queríamos desempolvar mi vieja cámara análoga y trabajar juntos haciendo algo divertido. El resultado fue bueno y a pesar de que las envíe a mas de 2 revistas extranjeras con buenos comentarios, nunca se publicaron. STUPIDMAGS!!!

Taking advantage of the visit of Erica García, a friend from college, I called Paula Arriola to organize a photoshoot. Paula has always been accessible and kind, always willing to work for the pleasure of it. Erica and I went to pick out clothes from TEMORES’ showroom and we coordinated her with clothes from our own. What we really wanted was to have a good excuse to use the helmets he did for his first collection. In this occasion, we weren’t trying to make a fashion editorial but to dust my film camera and to work in something fun. The result was good; I decided to send the photos to 2 foreign magazines. Despite receiving good reviews they were never published. STUPIDMAGS!!!

Mi estilista y yo planeamos estas fotos con mucha antelación. Las hicimos muy emocionadas y la idea original era utilizar chicas que tuvieran diferentes alturas y anatomías que estuvieran juntas . Eso complicó las cosas, ya que era difícil lograr buenas tomas con chicas tan diferentes entre si, jamás me habia costado tanto trabajo un shooting.

Las mandamos a una revista alemana y nos dijeron que estaban interesados, pero comenzaron a poner excusas con el estilo de la revista y la moda, todo muy extraño... y luego de 3 meses nos dimos cuenta que jamás las usarían. Stupidmags.

My stylist and I were planning this photo story long time ago. We made them very excited about the final result and the original idea was to use very different girls on them. That was complicated, to get good shots with so different shaped girls. I 've never been so sweaty at a shoot!

We send them to a dutch magazine but they were changing styles and didn't know how to fit them in, and started to put so much excuses. After 3 months we realized that they would never use them. Stupid mags...

Ir forzando los límites.

En cierto departamento vivieron un hombre, una mujer y un gato. La mujer y el gato apenas se rozaron en el espacio-tiempo: el gato era celoso y malvado; la mujer también. Ambos, hijos del abandono, moraban el piso acurrucándose junto al anfitrión. Ninguno de los dos decía mucho, pero entre ellos la guerra crecía a paso rápido.
Él cantaba, bailaba y daba los buenos días, mientras ella se retorcía, lloraba y rasgaba la tapicería. Al final, ella se enfundó en ropa interior transparente y esperó... El gato se quedó maullando en el exilio.

Esta serie de fotografías fue falsamente acogida en una revista que publicó sólo una de ellas: la polaroid. Stupidmags...

Pushing boundaries

In a certain apartment lived a man, a woman, and a cat.  The woman and the cat barely
grazed each other in space-time: the cat was jealous and evil; the woman was it so. Both, abandon’s children, dwelt the house cuddling with the host. None of them said much, but war grew fast between them. He sang, danced and greeted good morning while she crawled, cried and ripped the upholstery. Finally, she wrapped herself in translucent lingerie and longed... The cat ended exiled and meowing.

CAFFARELLA by Guido Gazzilli

La historia detrás de estas fotos nació unos años atrás en Roma. Una revista de moda me pidió que hiciera una editorial de moda para su próximo número, así que puse manos a la obra. Escogí un modelo muy joven y fuimos a un parque muy antiguo llamado "Caffarella", donde los romanos en la antiguedad solían practicar deportes antiguos, para tomar las fotos.

Luego de haber revelado y seleccionado las imágenes, la revista desafortunadamente no tuvo espacio disponible para nuestra editorial en ese número, asi que comencé a mandar mis fotos a otras revistas, incluyendo a 50/50 (un proyecto mexicano que quedó congelado), pero nunca pudieron ser publicadas. Stupid mags...

The history behind these photos was born some years ago in Rome. A fashion magazine asked me to make a fashion story for their next issue so i did it. I chose a young male model and we went to a park called " Caffarella", where long time ago the Romans used to organize some ancient sports to shoot the photos.

After having developed and selected the images, the magazine unfortunately didn't has more space to publish our fashion story on that issue, so I started to send my photos to other magazines, included 50/50 (a mexican frozen project), but they could never been published. Stupid mags...

Las fotos que escogí para este mixtape han sido fotos que nunca he publicado. Algunas porque nunca encontré el espacio adecuado. Otras porque se me pasó buscar donde colocarlas. Algunas más porque me las rechazaron de un libro ¿La razón? "Porque no estaban dentro de la estética"... Y otras que me llegaron a pedir, las envié y ya nunca me respondieron de regreso o las ví publicadas. Stupidmags...

The photos I chose for this mixtape are the ones that I have never published before. Some of theme because I never found the right place to publish 'em, some others because I forgot to send them to magazines. Other ones because they were rejected from a book because "they weren't inside the aesthetics" and other because the ask me for some photos, I send it and they never answered me again. Stupidmags...

It was rejected because they thought it was too artsy for their target since they focus on women between 30 and 60. I’m still very happy with this story, inspired by two of my favorite horror movies: The Shinning and Suspiria”

Fue rechazada por los editores por haberla considerado “demasiado artística”, ya que su target principal son las mujeres entre 30 y 60 años. TROUBLE MAKERS by Tony Solis

Esta es la primera versión de las fotos que me pìdió VICE USA para el mexican ISSUE publicadas en el 2008. Para ser honestos, me emocioné al recibir la oferta de trabajar con ellos después de tantos e-mails enviados por mi. Vice México aun no existía y casi nadie sabía que se iba a lanzar la edición mexicana. La historia era de tres chicos que a medida que pasaba el tiempo se iban disfrazando de rockstars buscapleitos. Lo de buscapleitos la mera verdad no nos salió muy bien dada la delicadeza de los modelos. Roberto de TEAMO fue el encargado de vestir a los chicos. El resultado nos encantó a los dos y rápidamente envié las fotos a la entonces editora de moda de VICE USA. Su respuesta me confundió un poco pues me pidió más interacción entre los chicos, un poco mas gay (pensé que ya era muy gay) y que añadiera cambios más urbanos en la ropa. Añadirle cambios me pareció muy forzado y opté por crear una nueva historia con los mismos modelos. En cuanto tuve la segunda versión la envié y quedaron encantados. A mi me parece mejor la primera.

Muchos meses después me llegó mi cheque por 100 dólares a nombre de Tony Solis imposible de cobrar en ningún banco mexicano o del mundo porque estaba rayado y mi nombre de pila no es Tony Solis (tengo dos nombres y dos apellidos). Me pareció mejor idea enmarcar el cheque que intentar cobrarlo.

This is the first published mexican ISSUE version shooting required by VICE USA I made on 2008. Honestly, I got excited about receiving a job offer after I sent them so many e-mails. Vice Mexico didn't exist yet, and almost nobody knew that the mexican version was to be shipped. The story was about 3 kids, during the shooting they dressed themselves with bully rocker costumes. They weren't as tough as it was supposed to be since were not really boyish. Roberto from TEAMO was the stylist. We loved the result and I sent the photos to the VICE USA fashion editor. Their response confused me a little since they asked me to make the boys interact more, a little more gay (though I tought they were enough gay) and add more urban clothing changes. I tought adding more changes was false and I decided to create a new story with the same models. I sent the new version as soon I got it and they loved it. I prefered the first.

Many months later I received my check for 100 usd at Tony Solis name, impossible to exchange at any mexican or international bank, because it was damaged, and my real name is not Tony Solis, ( I have 2 names and 2 last names).
